Arun Valley Trekking

Arun valley is situated between the Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) and Makalu-Barun National Park. This valley is named after the Arun River which originates in Tibet and flows to Nepal. The Arun Valley is one of the most incredible spots in Nepal best known for trekking, climbing and river rafting. Very few tourists have visited to this non touristy place. There are two options to approach to Arun valley either taking a flight to Lukla in the Everest region or taking a direct bus drive to Hile from Kathmandu. There are other trekking trails available to reach Arun valley depending on the interest of the travelers.
Trekking to Arun valley offers a unique experience as any trekkers encounter lots of cultural and natural attractions. The entire Arun valley is naturally beautiful as it is home to over 650 species of birds and several hundred species of butterflies. It is also a shelter of the rare and endangered Panda.
Walking through the numerous Sherpa villages, travelers can also get the opportunity to observe the culture and lifestyle of the area. During the trekking one can see magnificent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu and many other mountains at close quarters. There are two high passes- Sherpani Col and West Col and one should be well experienced to cross them and trek into the upper Hongu valley. Crossing Barun La Pass (4110m.) into the upper Barun Khola valley offers a close- up view of Mt. Makalu. The highest elevation of Arun valley trekking is Salpa Bhanjyang. During the trek travelers can visit Hindu holy Lake locally called Salpa (3414 m).
