Jomsom Muktinath trekking is one of the most popular, most diverse and picturesque treks attracting over 75% visitors (more than 30.000 annually) from various parts of Nepal and India in the dry, mountainous Annapurna region. We take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom at the elevation of 2713 m and traverse through harsh and rugged landscape of Kali Gandaki river valley to the most popular pilgrimage site of Muktinath via beautiful Kagbeni village (2,840m).
While trekking through Jomsom to Kagbeni, you will find Nepal's spectacular diversity - incredible views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri (6,940m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8,091m), Hiunchuli (6,441m) and Tarke Kang (7,193m); unique landscape, encounter mules, ponies carrying loads on the trail, various ethnic groups and the country's rural lifestyle. While on the trek throughout the tough windy trail along the Kaligandaki valley you may feel tired but natural scenery enchants you everytime. In the afternoon the wind blows heavily with full of dust and you think as if you are walking in the Tibetan like landscape.
The temple of Muktinath situated at 3800 m is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is sacred to both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims and many people from different parts of Nepal and India visit to Muktinath temple in special religious occasions. There are 108 water spouts seen around the wall of temple. The Jwala Mai is one of the mysterious temples nearby main temple of Muktinath. In the Jwala Mai temple you will find a natural hot spring where an eternal flame is burnt by underground natural gas. Since ancient times, the divine flames of fire (Jwala) have been worshipped as Jwaladevi (the goddess of flame). This holy water is channeled from a stream running above the temple built in Tibetan style and contains huge brass idols of Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma, and Kali.
