Kanchenjunga trekking is the journey around the third highest Mountain of the world Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m.) which is situated in the eastern part of Nepal bordering with Sikkim of India. Kanchenjunga region is god gifted with the natural bounties which offer the excellent view of the blooming rhododendrons, orchids, lilies, primulas and many other flowers. Kanchenjunga trekking also gives you an opportunity to enjoy the variety of beautiful landscapes, diverse Nepal's ethnic cultures as well as the enthralling vistas of the mountains including Kanchenjunga (8586m.), Everest (8848m.), Lhotse and Makalu. The Kanchenjunga has a profusion of high summits with three above 8000m and 11 above 7000m. The alpine grass lands, rocky outcrops, dense temperate and sub-tropical forests low river valley of this trekking region adds further pleasure to the trekkers. This journey gives the lifetime memory to the trekkers with thewilderness experience. Trekking to the Kanchenjunga region was opened for foreign trekkers in 1988 and for the trekking requires the special permit from the government.
The adventurous and challenging Kanchenjunga trekking begins from the Sukhetar of Taplejung, after flying from Kathmandu via Biratnagar. This trek offers the untouched nature and culture along with the ecological diversity. From Sukhetar you head to the Kanchenjunga base camp passing through thick rhododendron and oak forest, pastures, high waterfalls along the grandiose Himalayas, different village etc. you cross the villages like Mitlung, Ghunsa, Khambachen and Lhonak. The Kanchenjunga region is inhabited by different ethnic groups like Rai, Limbu, Sherpa, etc. While trekking you get insight into different ethnicities, the rich and unique culture and life style of Rai, Limbus, Sherpas etc,. En route you enjoy the view of the green terraced hills, rugged landscapes, large pastures as well as encounter the rare and wildlife including snow Himalayan black bear, leopard, red panda, and musk deer. To enjoy the pristine culture and nature of this region, the best season for trekking are autumn and spring.
